Manchester

“Having somewhere to go on Christmas Day means so much to me… I find Christmas really difficult and it is added stress.  I know we will all have a great time if we go to the Christmas Dinner. It’s going to be amazing!”

The Manchester Dinner is now in its 9th Year and after the break in communal celebrations forced by the 2020 lockdown,  we plan to return to normal operations (but with a few changes).  We learnt a lot last year, and we will be bringing some of that learning to make The Manchester Christmas Dinner 2021 even better. There most definitely will be Christmas decorations, dinner, cheesy Christmas tunes, and plenty of presents!

This year we will most definitely be returning to a  Christmas Day extravaganza in a University of Manchester venue with volunteer chefs and a traditional turkey dinner, so we will be looking out for a crew of Helpers who can help us make that happen.  We know that some of our wonderful Guests are not yet ready to return to a communal meal, so we are also looking for a bunch of people who would be happy to make Christmas Eve and Christmas Day food and gift deliveries.

Want to get involved? Read below to find out more.

Inviting Guests: If you’re a care experienced young person in the Manchester area, or know someone who is, you can be nominated to attend on the day. Please get in touch ASAP. You can download the guest registration form below

Gifts for Guests: We want to make this a special day for our Guests, and we hope to provide some gifts so guests feel special and cared about. If you are an immensely generous company or individual who can help us, drop us a line at mcr@thechristmasdinner.org.uk

If you would like to buy a gift for a Guest, please visit our Wish List: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3N2OVXDX258B1?ref_=wl_share

Want to help make the Manchester Magic happen another way?  Why not help with a donation to the  Crowdfunder appeal.

Helping on 19th December: We need people to help in advance of the day, wrapping presents; peeling potatoes – all the usual preparations to ensure Christmas Day goes with a sparkle. We can promise a fabulously festive environment and Christmas songs aplenty to help fuel the work! If you can spare some time on Christmas Eve and in the lead-up to the day and can help us prepare, download the information sheets below.

Hosts on Christmas Day:  We have been overwhelmed by the offers from people wanting to act as Hosts on Christmas Day and we have now reached our quota.  Thanks so much to all who have offered.  We would love to be able to have you all along, but our numbers are limited.

Drivers: Christmas Day Dinner Guests’ Christmas start on Christmas Eve with home deliveries of decorations and a Christmas Eve Goody Box.  We also need Drivers on Christmas Day to deliver meals to Guests who can’t join us on the Day. Have a read of the information sheets available below or email us at mcr@thechristmasdinner.org.uk.

Please Note: The minimum age for Hosts and Drivers is 25 and all Christmas Day volunteers will be asked to provide references.

Crafters: Last year as we didn’t have a venue to decorate, we delivered hand-crafted Christmas stockings and tree decorations to our guests instead.

These were so warmly received that we’d like to be able to do the same again this year.

If you’re a keen crafter (in any medium!) click here to find out how you can get involved: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rXmkayOTXDOYTynrC_vL9Mvv9dRGw8Zm/view?usp=sharing

If you think you can support us in another way – the above list is not exhaustive! Please do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!

We continue to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of help support from the people of Manchester, and while we welcome each and every offer of support and help, we sadly can’t take up every offer.   It doesn’t mean we don’t love you, it is just a reflection of the extraordinary level of love that exists in our great city.
